To the frequent amazement of overseas visitors to Northern Ireland, all the best things are within a short scenic drive of one another. You could drive on our uncrowded roads from the surf–washed Atlantic beaches of the Causeway Coast & Glens, through Belfast and on to the seaside resorts of the Kingdoms of Down, in just two or three hours. However, there is so much to see and do in Belfast city you may find it hard to leave. The following are just some of the places you will want to visit: Belfast Castle sits on the slopes of Cavehill overlooking Belfast Lough. From being used in World War II as a war control room to its current purpose as a popular wedding venue and restaurant the Castle has seen it all. Belfast City Hall was completed in 1906 and has been the scene of many of the province's most significant historical moments.

The Queen's University is over 150 years old and leads the world in cutting edge research. Ulster Hall is located in the city centre and has long upheld a tradition of good music from the Ulster Orchestra to the most modern of pop groups. St.Anne's Cathedral, Belfast is an imposing Hiberno–Romanesque monument to persistence – it was partly completed and opened in the 1890s and finished nearly a century later. The Crown Liquor Saloon in Great Victoria Street is a gem of Victoriana, and without doubt one of the great bars of the world. This was perhaps the greatest of Victorian gin palaces which once flourished in the industrial cities of Britain. Today wonderfully preserved, the Crown is cherished and still well used by the people of Belfast.

Belfast Zoo, overlooking Belfast Lough, is one of the most acclaimed zoos in the world. Its unparalleled aquatic enclosures are not to be missed. Botanic Gardens, beside the University, are a refuge for students, tourists and wildlife alike. Lagan Valley Regional Park covers 13 miles of the most scenic stretches of the Lagan and comprises an attractive mix of natural amenities.

The Odyssey Arena, located on Queen's Quay Belfast, is Northern Ireland's Landmark Millennium Project and Ireland's largest all–seater indoor venue. Ulster Museum, located in the university quarter, has many award–winning exhibits with artifacts ranging from mummies to dinosaurs to modern art. Ulster Historical Foundation 12 College Square East, is a non–profit organisation founded in 1956 to promote interest in Irish history and genealogy, with particular reference to Ulster. The Foundation offers an ancestral research service, publishes books, organises conferences and lecture tours and runs a membership Guild.
